The web talks about it:

.

Since the early sixties, relations between Ford and Cosworth have been close and have reached
their peak in 1967 when the injection of funds by the former to the genius of the latter
combined to produce the most famous and successful Grand Prix engine,
the 3.0-liter Cosworth Ford DFV V-8. For the first time ever, the names are combined on one car,
the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth.

The base body is that of the Sierra XR4i (your Merkur XR4Ti), which has been in production for some time and,
in Europe, powered by the 2.8-liter V-6 engine. Subtle changes have been made,
notably the addition of "eyebrows" on the wheel arches and the single-plane rear spoiler, mounted high,
replacing the XR4i's rather unsightly spoiler. About the size of a picnic table,
it can produce up to 45 lbs of useful support.

I had the privilege of being invited to drive one of the prototypes ahead of the scheduled production date.
The location of the meeting was Spain, the route chosen for its wide variety of roads and surfaces.

As Ford turns to motorsport governing body (FIA) to homologate Sierra RS
(Rallye Sport) Cosworth, it is obvious that the car is designed to leave room for those who want it
both for use in the racing and rally worlds The arches can accommodate
racing tires up to 10 inches. width to start.
Additionally, only 5,000 units will be built.

The engine rides on the production Sierra's 2.0-liter 4-liter cast-iron block,
to which Cosworth has associated a light alloy head with 4 valves per cylinder.
Double overhead camshafts, operating in five bearings, actuate the valves through the
through bucket valve hydraulic servomotors, the exhaust valves being filled with sodium.
Specially designed aluminum pistons have a shallow recessed bowl in their crown
giving a compression ratio of 8.0:1, while their skirts are doused with oil from a rail
special reaching their bottom dead center to protect them from the high temperatures produced
by the maximum overpressure.
