The new 2007 Mazda6 Facelift was launched late last year by
at its 3S showroom in Lot 9 today, off Federal Highway. This renovated Mazda6 presents
785 technical modifications which accompany the expected exterior and interior aesthetic modifications,
making it more than a refreshing exercise in keeping the car current since its 2003 launch.
In fact, some have said that despite the interior similarities, the pre-facelift and post-facelift models
are two completely different animals when it comes to the driving experience.
The Mazda6 is one of the rare cars whose chassis was designed specifically for it.
In Mazda's dictionary it is called the GG/GY chassis, but it has since been adapted by Ford
as a CD3 chassis to be used as a basis for cars like the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
A chassis injected with Mazdas “Zoom-Zoom” DNA from the start is perhaps what made the Mazda6 what it is,
and the reason why it has won the favor of automotive journalists around the world,
winning 126 awards worldwide in 37 countries since its introduction, making it one of the new cars
most successful in Mazda's 82-year history.
Both engines are based on a similar block, with identical bores but the 2.3 liter has a stroke
longer to increase its displacement. You get S-VT sequential valve timing to smooth out the
torque curve and help with fuel consumption, as well as the VIS (variable intake system)
to match the length of the airflow path, thereby affecting its speed depending on RPM
engine. The 2.3-liter engine is now EURO3 compliant.
A 5-speed automatic transmission is available on the 2.0 and 2.3 liter models. Mazda did something
different with the 5 speeds of this gearbox, instead of having 3 normal gears and 2 gears
overdrive like its competitors in the same vehicle category, it offers a 4-wheel configuration
normal gears and 1 overdrive. This allows for better acceleration - leaving a speed of
overdrive for highway cruising. You lose ridiculously low RPM on a cruise at
high speed like the Accords at 3000 rpm at 150 km/h, but the best takeoff acceleration makes
more than compensates.
