PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:

– 2.2 JTS engine: temperature sensors replaced, engine fault light coming on unexpectedly.
– 2.4 JTDm: EGR valve clogged, sometimes to be replaced, problems with the speed sensor preventing starting, intake or exhaust manifold clogged, black smoke in the exhaust (particulate filter regeneration problem), pronounced sensitivity to the quality of the diesel.
– Gearbox: fragility of a part of the linkage.
– Brakes: failure of vulcanization of the hoses (recall in December 2007).
– Steering: rack sometimes needs to be replaced.
– Alternator delivering too high a voltage.
– Fuel tank: defective welding.
– Interior: appearance of numerous squeaks, particularly in the glove box.

At the start of 2006, the Brera coupe already allowed Alfa Romeo to win the prize for most beautiful car of the year 2005 at the International Automobile Festival. The awards ceremony then took place in Paris, in the prestigious setting of the Grand Palais.

Today, it is Japan which has selected the Brera coupe as “European Car of the Year 2007”. The 21 members of the jury of the JAHFA, Japan Automotive Hall of Fame, elected the Brera for its style, its price/performance ratio and its interior design.
